Wan 2.2

Wan 2.2 is an open-source AI video generation model from Alibaba's Tongyi Lab, released in July 2025 under the Apache 2.0 license. It introduced a groundbreaking Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) architecture to the diffusion transformer paradigm, employing 27 billion total parameters with only 14 billion active during any single generation pass. This dual-expert design assigns a high-noise expert for early-stage layout planning and a low-noise expert for late-stage detail refinement, producing sharper output without increased computational cost.

Wan 2.2 generates videos at up to 720p resolution and 24 frames per second, with 5-second clip duration and support for both start-frame and end-frame conditioning. This keyframe control makes it uniquely suited for storyboard-driven workflows where precise scene transitions matter. The model builds on Wan 2.1's VBench-leading performance (86.22% total score, surpassing Sora and Luma) while adding improved camera and motion controls via the VACE 2.0 pipeline, plus richer visual effects including fire, smoke, and dynamic lighting.
